2026 Flotilla to Alaska Day 36 - Appleton Cove to Pavlof Harbor

Our group left early for the six hour cruise from Appleton to Pavlof Harbor, one of our favorite stops in this part of SE Alaska.

We left Appleton and cruised the short distance out Peril Strait, turning into an uncharacteristically calm Chatham Strait for the long run up to Pavlof.

Alicia and Gregg aboard Evenstar spotted a sow and an older cub strolling along the beach in Chatham Strait.

Pavlof sits near the entrance to Freshwater Bay (which is still saltwater, by the way) and features a waterfall with a salmon ladder, and very active fishing bears when the salmon are running. We're here a bit too early for that this year, but we still enjoyed the stunning scenery and epic battles between eagles and crows in the trees onshore.

Missie and Russ from Selene 53 Melissa Lynn came by the Airship/Dog Star raft to say hi and chat...so fun to see them and introduce them to some of the group!

Everyone had a relaxing evening aboard. Tomorrow, we'll pop back out into Chatham Strait and continue north and into Icy Strait to visit Hoonah.

Overnighting in Boughey Bay had given a nice route out to Queen Charlotte This morning we cruised across Queen Charlotte to Blunden Harbour, one of our favorite staging points for rounding Cape Caution.
